Submit to our Journal!

Submit your work to be reviewed by our Editorial Board, and possibly be published in our award-winning journal! We welcome submissions of poetry, prose, artwork, photography, and anything else magnificent you've created.

You must be in high school or younger for your submissions to be reviewed.

Submissions Guidelines

The Battering Ram will only review submissions from students in high school or younger. We will not review work from students attending a college or university or from adults. Additionally, we will not accept copyrighted images or writing.

Please use the body of your email as a cover letter for your submission. The cover letter should include your full name, or a pen name/pseudonym that you wish to use, and the title(s) of your piece(s). This letter cannot be viewed by anyone except for our Editor-in-Chief, so your identity will not be revealed to those evaluating your work.

Poetry: Up to ten (10) pieces of poetry may be submitted per issue of the journal.

Prose: Up to ten (10) prose pieces may be submitted per issue of the journal. We give priority to prose pieces between 1 & 3 pages long. However, we do accept work of up to six pages in length if they are of exceptional quality.

Artwork & Photography: Up to ten (10) photos and/or pieces of artwork may be submitted per issue of the journal.

If you are submitting more than one type of work (for example, photography and poetry), the total number of submissions can only be ten (10) or less. It is not guaranteed that all of your pieces will be accepted. To maintain a diverse selection, the maximum number of pieces that may be accepted per person is three (3).

  • Please send us your work electronically. We prefer Google Docs for writing, and high-resolution .jpeg’s (300 dpi or greater) for artwork and photography. Artwork can be scanned or can be sent as a picture.

  • Please title all of your works. If you do not provide titles and your work is accepted, a title will be chosen by our Editorial Board.

  • Our submissions are read blindly so do not put any identifying information on the document(s) you send.

  • We do not accept previously published work. If your piece has been published anywhere other than a personal blog, website, or social media account, please do not submit it.

  • We encourage simultaneous submissions, but please inform us if your work has been accepted for publication elsewhere.

  • We do not consider erotica or pieces with graphic violence.

  • If your work is accepted, you will be sent a copy of the journal that it is published in. You will retain your copyright.

  • If your work ends up being published by another journal or publication, please give us credit for publishing your work originally.

  • We will try to get back to you as soon as possible about the status of your submission. However, if you have not received some sort of notification on your submission before February (for our Fall Edition) and June (for our Spring Edition), please feel free to email us.

  • You can choose to either send an email to batteringram@woodstockdayschool.org, or click the button below to submit your work.
